Greetings in His Grace,
I am still amazed at how God sends exceptional volunteers each month, we are especially grateful for the teenagers, and those from Canada who have an outstanding spirit and did exceptional work for us. They came in with awesome attitudes working and loving us like we were their own. It's a blessing to have "neighbors" like them in Canada. God's provision continually encourages me as well as others in the ministry here.
One specific story – we had 80 teenagers and 17 adults from Omaha, Nebraska, who were housed and fed by the local public high school. Many of these teens displayed outstanding character and commitment in their conduct and appear to be future leaders-they were more like college age disciples. Out of these 80, many were choosing to become and asked for prayer to become leaders. We saw 14 of these teenagers baptized in the Gulf of Mexico by their youth pastor. At the beginning of their stay a local woman carpenter came in to inspect her neighbor's drywall that the group had been working on, she was grumpy, critical of their work and harsh with the teenagers. The kids were able to keep good attitudes and were able to love her. As it turned out, she taught them how to hang the drywall and ended up checking in with them through out the week and they all developed a sweet relationship with one another. The greatest part of it all; she recommitted her life to Christ and was baptized on Friday morning by their youth pastor. Wow, it's amazing what a Christ like attitude can accomplish!
The Lord is confirming very clearly that he wants teenagers helping to rebuild Waveland. They seem to be having a large impact, primarily because it's more unusual for teenagers to give their lives away, even more than adults doing the same thing. Several locals have commented on how impressed they are that the teens would give up vacation time to come here.
A new exciting development is that Allie is teaching a woman from our church how to read. There is also another man who is showing interest in learning as well. Hopefully in the months to come we will have another reader in the crowd!
