UPDATE FROM CAMP KATRINA/CLC
October 25, 2007
Greetings friends and fellow warriors:
I was driving through Tallahassee, Florida last Friday and received a telephone call from David Cornelius, of WRAF at Toccoa Falls College. He wanted to do a live interview on what was happening in Waveland Mississippi. It was a powerful 30 minutes of reliving the last two years and seeing God’s hand at every turn. I could hardly get through the interview without weeping tears of joy for God’s faithfulness through so many people around the USA and Canada. It has been one of the most fulfilling ministries in all my life of more than 60 years to see God work as HE has in Waveland and Bay St. Louis.
During that interview it was raining outside my car. A river of water was pouring down as I was talking with David via cell phone. I was reminded again of how refreshing the rain can be and how God continues to refresh us daily by pouring out His blessings. I had just left a Foundation Meeting that pledged $10,000 to the Katrina effort. Another letter came via email promising $5000 for the refurbishing of a home for the Pastoral Couple coming in January. $5000 more was pledged towards the general expenses. God is so awesome!
The Volunteer pool is starting to get better as well. We have a good group of 24 volunteers in for this week from Wisconsin. A group from Canada wants to come in February for two weeks, just to name a few. We are encouraged to see how God is working and so appreciate your help in every way.
Some Praise notes:
· Last week, Mark came over to Foley and picked up a Trailer full of excellent used clothes that was given to CLC to help start a THRIFT STORE. This is one possibility to provide needed items to the people in Waveland/Bay ST. Louis area. We are in the process of looking at starting a small Thrift Store. This could provide resources for the continuation of long term ministry in Waveland.
· The local members of the Church Plant that was started from the ministry of Camp Katrina and the Christian Life Center have picked a permanent name, Waveland Community Church. It is exciting to see the local church members take more ownership of the Church Plant.
· We are helping Mayor Tommy Longo finish his damaged Katrina house. He has been living in FEMA housing for two years and wanted to make sure that others in greater need were cared for before he started his home. The Mayor continues to see God’s Hand on his community and is so grateful to God and CLC for all that we are able to do.
· The Bible Study group of 10-20 people continues to be greatly encouraged by Mark’s teaching and “loving on them.” Mark is preparing the Church for the eventual ministry of David and Donna Cornelius as they look forward to joining the CLC team in January.
· Leo Abdella, the Missions Director for Palm Beach Gardens Christ Fellowship, is providing 3000 meals for a Thanksgiving outreach to Waveland. Keep us in your prayers during the Thanksgiving weekend as Lilburn Alliance Church joins us in an exciting outreach event to the community. We have a number of teams coming over to help in the distribution of these meals to people living in FEMA Housing. If your church is interested in helping over the weekend please contact the Christian Life Center.
Some PRAYER REQUESTS:
- We need more Volunteers throughout November and December.
- David and Donna Cornelius need to sell their home in Toccoa, Georgia before moving to Waveland to care for the Pastoral ministries of CLC.
- John and Crissy Rohmayer have about 20% of their monthly support raised to come to Waveland and lead the rebuilding and reconstruction ministry. They are moving to Waveland in January from Wisconsin. Pray that the remaining funds will be pledged during these next weeks as the Rohmayers visit churches.
- Pray for the current ministry team at CLC. Mark and Melissa Young, Shannon Lennox, Gary Greene and Brett Larson.
- Pray for the families that are attending CLC Bible Studies twice a week.
Mark Young is the new Director of CLC and has some exciting ideas for keeping the volunteers connected to Waveland. One of his goals is to expand the communication so that volunteers are staying connected to the Story of redemption that God is telling in Waveland. Be looking for his monthly newsletter and an interactive blog that he is developing.
Stay blessed my friends, as we continue to Finish Well in Waveland
Your Brother,
Don Young
