GENESIS CHURCH: KATRINA UPDATE
                                       November 28, 2007

Dear Partners in the Ministry:

WOW! What a Thanksgiving week. I am sure many of you enjoyed family and friends throughout these past few days. It has been the same for us. Marlen and I had the joy of spending our Thanksgiving time with friends and family in Waveland, Mississippi. CLC partnered with Lilburn Alliance Church, out of Atlanta, Georgia, and Christ Fellowship in Palm Beach Gardens Florida, in providing 265 turkeys to feed over 1600 people.

It was an awesome two days. We were able to see God provide, bless, encourage, and bring enjoyment to so many families. It was so moving to see people lined up to get their turkeys, complete with dressing, sweet potatoes, veggies, and fruit. The people from Waveland Community Church were there early making up the baskets and delivering them to friends who couldn’t come to the center. What a blessing.

Want to hear a God-story? I thought you would! Our onsite team gathered more names for turkeys than we had budgeted. In fact, Palm Beach Gardens Christ Fellowship Church had sent us 125 turkeys complete with all the trimmings. We had 265 families that needed help. So Mark went out and purchased 110 more turkeys. He had no idea where the funding would come to pay for these turkeys, but his missionary kid mentality is simple, “this is God’s work, He will provide.”

Here’s the point. A couple of former volunteers were driving by the center on their way back to New York from visiting the area. They gave Mark a check. It was the total of gifts they had gathered from other volunteers and friends in their churches that wanted to bless the ministry. Any idea of the amount on the check? You guessed it! TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS! God had already provided the amount needed before the need; we just didn’t get the funds until the need! Now that’s how God works. Follow Him in obedience and He will provide.

Speaking of Needs, so many of you have written asking about Christmas. “How can we help, what can we send?” Thanks for asking. Do we have a deal for you! (No I am not a used car salesman.) Here is an idea that can help you help us and the hundreds of families that are hurting this Christmas. It’s called…are you ready for this? “The 2X4 project plus gift cards. Sounds simple and it is. Just check out the attachment by clicking http://www.campkatrina.com/Documents/2x4flierCLC[1].pdf and see how easy it is to help someone else in need this Christmas.  This is such an easy thing to do.  We so greatly appreciate your partnership. Without you we wouldn’t be able to continue the ministry. We wouldn’t be able to finish well or get these people past the storm and on to solid ground in their lives.

Mark will be sending you a news letter soon as well. I just wanted to get this off so you could be praying for us during the holidays. Many of you are coming over to help us during these next months. A big thank you in advance.

SOME PRAYER REQESTS:

For the 80 plus kids and their families that came to our FAMILY FUN DAY, Friday after Thanksgiving Thursday. Pray for the follow-up and continued contact with these families as we move forward in church planting.

SOME PRAISES:

May these days of ministry opportunities be blessed for you and your families! We have a chance, to see God work in extraordinary ways. He is moving and we are joining Him in what He is doing. Blessed be His name!

Embracing the Vision,

Don Young, Lead Pastor at Genesis Church
