Mission Update May 2009
We are in awe of how God continues to work in this community. It has been such a wonderful blessing to see so many of you continue to bless this community with your time and sweat. You all are truly the greatest support team a mission could have…Bless You!
Over the next few months we will be moving the Waveland Thrift Store off site and act on God’s calling to us to take Christ’s message of hope and healing to a forgotten broken world. Our hope is to develop a more holistic thrift store ministry with a coffee shop and a place for moms to come with their kids and be encouraged with a hug and a listening ear. Please be praying with us through this process of moving the store off site.
With transition come new needs. One of our greatest needs is additional missionaries to join the work in Waveland. Is God calling you to take some time and work for more than a week in Waveland MS? Over the next few updates we will be sharing with you the vision that God is laying on our hearts to reach this community for Christ. We will share with you how you can be a part of that work. In this update I want to focus on staffing needs. Please read through the following list of staffing needs and if you or someone you know may be interested in helping by joining the team please have them send an email to tom@clcgulftcoast.com. Also feel free to forward this letter to anyone you think might be interested in the Waveland MS Mission.
Are you being called? :
Most of the staff members who have served in different capacities at the Christian Life Center began their journey with a one week trip. Is God asking more of you?
The following are a list of opportunities that are presently open at the Christian Life Center. Pray with us for God’s team in Waveland MS.
Kitchen Managers:
We have two openings for this position. We are looking for two people to share the kitchen management duties. A husband and wife team can be considered as well as two unrelated individuals. In the past we have had one person who managed the kitchen and supervised and participated in cooking all of the meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We have changed that model now to have one person who supervises and cooks the breakfast and coordinates the setting up of a bag lunch table for volunteers to prepare their own bag lunch. This person also supervises clean up after the morning meal. The second person supervises and cooks the dinner. This person also supervises the clean up after the dinner. Either one or both of the Kitchen Managers on a coordinated basis will supervise the ordering and purchasing of the food and supplies for the Center. We assign an appropriate number of weekly volunteers as kitchen help so that the respective managers do not have responsibility for all of the labor. Both the morning and evening kitchen managers are expected to additionally be involved in CLC coordinated community outreach and ministry activities for Kingdom Growth within the Waveland/Bay Saint Louis community.
Front Desk/Thrift Store Deck:
This position is on the front line of connection with the Waveland/Bay Saint Louis community. The primary skills required are an open and friendly personality, a willingness to listen to local people, to pray with them as appropriate, to have a compassionate spirit, and a willingness to build relationships for Kingdom purposes. Secondarily, an ability to use and update data on the CLC computer system via MS Access is a plus but not a necessity.
Construction Assistant:
This position provides support to the Construction Manager in maintaining the construction ministry of the Christian Life Center. Essential functions of this position are to help coordinate the needs of the local community members with the construction ministry resources of Christian Life Center. Construction experience is not a necessity, but can be a plus. This position helps to manage the coordination of the volunteer flow with the jobs for which local people are requesting our help on. Additionally coordination of the volunteer flow and volunteer needs while teams are at CLC is an important component of this position.
A willingness to listen to local people, to pray with them as appropriate, to have a compassionate spirit, and a willingness to build relationships for Kingdom purposes is essential. A current ability, or a willingness to learn how to use and update data on the CLC computer system via MS Access is a plus.
Assistant to the Thrift Store Manager:
This is essentially a new position that formalizes duties that have developed over recent months. This position will work directly with the Thrift Store Manager to provide support to the Thrift Store manager in all phases of the Thrift Store operations with a focus on connecting with the local people who come to the Thrift Store. The primary skills required are an open and friendly personality, a willingness to listen to local people, to pray with them as appropriate, to have a compassionate spirit, and a willingness to build relationships for Kingdom purposes. The ability to help with the physical aspects of receiving deliveries and managing the store stock is a plus.
Coordinator for Community Counseling, Teaching, and Financial Mentoring:
This position is a new position that will develop a community education ministry focused upon reading skills, GED preparation, and financial counseling. Suggestions for developing the focus and structure of this position beyond these areas are requested. We expect to have access to several computers and appropriate software for use in programs in this area of ministry. Suggestions and ideas are welcome. The primary skills required are an open and friendly personality, a willingness to listen to local people, to pray with them as appropriate, to have a compassionate spirit, and a willingness to build relationships for Kingdom purposes.
Don’t see a position that you feel God might be calling you to but still feel like possibly joining the team. Please let us know, God may have something that we have not thought of yet.
